So, on another version of Earth, where things are almost identical, that giant meteor that killed the dinosaurs? A god accidentally did that, had a little too much fun and went oops about it. So out of some form of repentance, he decided to spend his time watching over the planet and the slow evolution of the remaining species. That's when a certain ancestor of a modern day human caught his attention. So enamored by this creature, he gave them a piece of himself, an everlasting 'soul' energy to help them grow and develop their own morals and eventually form their own complex society.

Of course, that's still going to take a long amount of time. They still need to develop speech and all that. And hey, if they're going to have a society based on morals, might as well make a paradise and hell too, right? He is a god and he likes being one, not to mention that he literally gave a piece of himself in all this.

In preparation, he starts to create angels to help manage everything, some looking extremely humanoid, others more abstract in design. There's a hierarchy to them, such as Seraphim being at the top, and then going down until you just have regular angels. Archangels are considered powerful, but they're pretty low on the totem pole, just above the angels, and that's where Michael comes in. Well, Michael, Gabriel, Lucifer, and Raphael.

So, the story about Lucifer rebelling with a bunch of other angels? That certainly happened after being tempted by Satan, who actually is god's right-hand man and ordered to find anyone that might be a little rebellious. God was like 'gotta weed out all of the troublemakers right now,' and sent Michael to stop him. Michael was a bloodthirsty little asshole during this time, and happily stopped Lucifer, even taking a step further and completely obliterating him from existence. It's only after committing such an action that the weight of everything hits him, and nearly pleads with god to either destroy him or punish him. God decided to break his soul into three separate pieces, each occupying a separate body.

Each body was given a separate task, one that guides human souls after they die, one that judges each other, and one that sort of dicks around on Earth. Okay, he's known as 'free-will' and he's a pretty nice dude, all things considered. They are unable to share memories or thoughts with each other, but intense emotions are passed through. They all have conflicting feelings about being separated from each other, not to mention 'Death' and 'Judgement' are both exhausted from their respective duties, but we'll eventually get into that.

Oh yeah, things from the Bible and other similar texts may or may not have happened, ask Gabriel, but he won't give a straight answer. As a general note, angels can only interact with living humans in their dreams, with the exception of Archangels, who have physical forms on Earth. On another note, only 'free-will' Michael has that physical form, as the other two parts of him deal with the aftermath of life. Satan is a decent manager in hell, really it's a promotion, but things are getting more difficult as more negative soul energy swirls around in it.

★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills: He's good at pretending that he's a normal dude, despite not being normal.
Canon Abilities: He's stronger and faster than most humans, but nothing that would be extremely out of the ordinary. He can't outrun a cheetah or lift a five story building. He generally heals quicker and is more tolerant of pain, but still unable to restore a limb and a bullet to his leg is still gonna hurt. However, he technically can't 'die,' his body may be destroyed, but he can reform after a period of time. I figure this part of him will be nerfed or non applicable to the setting anyway.

He can also sense if someone is human or not, but that only applies to the humans from his version of Earth, so everyone is going to feel 'different' to him. Regarding demons and other angels, he may feel if they're 'corrupt' or 'holy' depending on their species and etc.

His most notable ability is pulling the Sword of Michael (he's not good at naming things) from his body, but he hasn't done that in many, many, years. The sword is decently sharp and is fine as a normal weapon. It's main purpose is to fight against 'corrupted' creatures, but it's not at full power still, so nothing too fancy.

Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: White angel wings and maybe a halo at some point. When he gets his wings, he'll be able to hide them.
Role Reasoning: Angel man wants angel wings. So Michael is a pretty optimistic and positive sort of guy, always wanting to help others and avoiding violence like the plague. To him, being kind is just the natural thing to do, given his true status as an angel, and he just likes being that way. Part of it is because he wants to feel 'good,' given that the other two parts of his soul deal with more difficult things. He's always thinking about others, even if those others are 'him,' just in separate bodies.

He's accustomed to putting himself last in terms of needs and goals, and may appear as a bit of a pushover because of all this. While he's not overly emotional, he's also not great at hiding his feelings, wearing them on his sleeve.

★ Personality ★

Option 1..

Containing a third of Archangel Michael's soul, he's been tasked with the duty of... nothing. Unlike his other parts that deal with guiding souls and judging them, he's just 'free-will.' It's mostly a blessing to him, as he gets to live however he wants, and he's dedicated most of his existence to living a quiet, if peaceful life. Sometimes, he misses the call of having a specified 'duty,' as most other angels have a certain task assigned to them, but he uses his time to just living as 'positively as possible.'

He's come to that mindset partly due to the exhaustion that he feels from the other two parts of his soul. While they are in separate bodies with their own memories and thoughts, they still share intense emotions with each other, and that's not something they can stop. Most of the time, he senses bittersweet feelings, or just plain exhaustion from them, especially in recent years, so he tries to live in a way where he lives easily, hoping those emotions reach them in return. It's because of this mindset, however, that he sometimes forms shallow relationships with people, not going anything further than friendly acquaintances. It's a little hard as well to fully befriend someone that you know will eventually die and be judged by other parts of you.

He'll, of course, do his best to assist them if they need it, but he usually doesn't get too involved in their lives if he can help it. It may sound like a bit of a lonely existence, but he counts the other two parts of him as slightly separate entities and he's content as long as he feels connected with them. Not to mention, it's hard for him to fully relate to regular humans, because of the very nature of his existence, although that's often an excuse that he tells himself. Due to being distant with human lives, Michael can come off as inexperienced at times, despite being very old. He can usually carry normal conversations to a normal level of success, but he often struggles on what to say in situations that are out of his comfort zone. However, he's a good listener and often patient with others. Most of the time, he can be surprisingly nonjudgmental.

Because of the guilt he has for violently killing Lucifer, Michael can't stand violence, and he will do his best not to harm anyone, let alone kill them. He's managed this far and doesn't plan on having that changed. If someone's in danger, he will go out of his way to protect them, but he'd rather get hurt or sacrifice his life rather than do anything more than immobilizing his opponent. He can come off as a little bit a pushover as well, especially with how nonconfrontational he can be unless someone else is in danger.

So, he lives a safe existence, and while he is content with what he's doing, he doesn't reach the highs that people have when they form deep connections with each other. It's not really quite living if you don't feel sad or loss once in a while either, right? Those are things he struggles with and hasn't delved into, partly afraid and partly anxious in how he'd react to all that. It's the main thing preventing him back from living a fully 'free life.' Michael, in essence, is holding himself back because he worries about hurting the other parts of his soul with any deep sadness he may feel.

At this canon point, he'll also worry about what Raphael has told him, that the corruption from hell is leaking out and not only poisoning several humans, but may eventually form full-fledged demons and the like. Or probably demons, they're working on an official title. However, the only way to combat them is to reunite with his other two parts and to Michael, it would almost feel like murder, as they would no longer exist as separate entities. So, more reluctance on his end, even if Earth itself may be in danger.

His full potential would involve Michael forming close bonds and friendships with people. He may be an immortal angel, but there are still things that he can connect to with others. Not only would that involve knowing them on a more personal level, he could actually deal with potential loss and heartache if something happens to them. It's a growth that he'd need to go through to reach that potential. Gaining these bonds would make him far more fulfilled than he's ever been, even if his other selves won't realize it immediately.
